Intangible Cultural Heritage Successor

Bosco Baek (白承哲) is the Founding Principal and Headmaster of Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA in Los Angeles, California. Dedicated exclusively to Chen Family Taijiquan for over 25 years, he is widely recognized as a leading authority preserving the art's authentic lineage in North America. 

Lineage & Intangible Cultural Heritage

  • Sole Cultural Successor in North America: In 2014, Master Baek was awarded the official title of Chenjiagou Intangible Cultural Heritage Chen Family Taijiquan Excellent Successor by the Chen Village Committee and Chen Village Taijiquan Association. 
  • Highest Heritage Distinction: Building upon this foundation, in 2025 he received the prestigious Humanity Intangible Cultural Heritage Chen Family Taijiquan Excellent Successor distinction conferred by Chen Village—establishing him as the sole individual in North America to hold these historic cultural heritage honors. 
  • National & State Recognition: Awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the California State Assembly (2016) and classified under the EB-1A Extraordinary Ability category by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). 

Academic & Institutional Leadership

  • First Tai Chi Instructor for the FBI: In 2015, Master Baek made history by serving as the very first Tai Chi instructor for the FBI Los Angeles Headquarters, receiving an official Certificate of Appreciation for his service. 
  • Executive & Healthcare Education: Completed the Executive Education Certificate in "Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care" from Harvard Medical School (2025), integrating cutting-edge healthcare leadership with somatic mind-body practices. 
  • University Faculty: Serves as a Professor of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Tui Na at Dongguk University Los Angeles (DULA), and has taught as a guest professor at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and Samra University. 
  • Science & Somatic Foundation: Holds a B.S. in Biology from Loyola University Chicago and is pursuing a dual Master's/Doctoral program in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at DULA. 

Major Championship Accomplishments

  • Jiaozuo & Chenjiagou International Competitions: Medalist at the premier home-country championships in China, including the Jiaozuo International Taijiquan Exchange Competition and the Chenjiagou Taijiquan Exchange Competition (Gold Medal in Double Straight Sword, Silver and Bronze Medals in Single Straight Sword and Combined Complex Forms).
  • International & National Tournaments: Multi-Gold Medalist across major international and national championships, earning top honors in Advanced Spear, Straight Sword, Old Frame, and New Frame forms.

Published Books & Media

  • Published Author: Author of foundational books on Tai Chi mechanics and theory, including 25 Secrets of Tai Chi: Chen Family Taijiquan 25 Key Disciplines, Chen Family Taijiquan: 25 Key Disciplines, Ekatala Yoga Theory, and Ekatala Yoga Practice. 
  • Media & Featured Publications: Main author and cover model for Chen T'ai Chi: Traditional Instructions from the Chen Village (Vol. 2), cover model for Journal of Asian Martial Arts, and contributor to Inside Kung-Fu. 
  • Entertainment Industry Consultant: Martial arts choreographer, actor, and stunt consultant for film and television, including the series Coolie and Yin & Yang.
