Public Classes

Group practicing Tai Chi in a studio.

Introduction to Authentic Chen Family Taijiquan

The Public Classes at Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA offer a structured introduction to authentic Chen Family Taijiquan, directly rooted in the traditions of Chenjiagou—the historic birthplace of Tai Chi.

Designed for both beginners and returning practitioners, this program establishes essential principles, body mechanics, and foundational skills for health, relaxation, and martial development.

The Tai Chi 100 Series

Our public instruction follows a progressive, rotating curriculum structured around three core modules:

1. Tai Chi 100 — Fang Song (Relaxation / 放松)

  • Overview: A signature eight-movement training system developed by Master Chen Bing, distilling generations of Chen Family lineage.
  • Key Benefits: Releases chronic muscle tension, improves spinal alignment, enhances natural breathing, and builds a solid foundation for all future Tai Chi practice.

2. Tai Chi 101 — Reeling Silk (Chán Sī Jīn / 纏絲勁)

  • Overview: The essential kinetic engine of Chen Family Taijiquan, teaching how movement originates from the Dantian and travels in coordinated spirals.
  • Key Benefits: Develops whole-body connection, structural alignment, internal power (Fajin), and efficient body mechanics.

3. Tai Chi 102 — Basic 13 Form (基本十三式)

  • Overview: Master Chen Bing’s signature system based on the classical framework of Eight Methods and Five Steps (八法五步).
  • Core Principles Covered:
    • Four Primary Forces: Ward-Off (Peng), Roll-Back (Lu), Press (Ji), Push (An)
    • Four Supporting Forces: Pull-Down (Cai), Split (Lie), Elbow Strike (Zhou), Leaning Strike (Kao)
    • Five Steps: Advance (Jin), Retreat (Tui), Look Left (Gu), Look Right (Pan), Central Equilibrium (Ding)
